COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAMINATIONS TOOWOOMBAEye care that looks beyond your prescription.
Seeing clearly is important. But a comprehensive eye examination can tell us much more than whether your glasses prescription has changed.
At LA Optical, we take the time to understand your vision, assess the health of your eyes and talk through anything you’ve noticed along the way. From everyday changes in your eyesight to monitoring ongoing eye conditions, our experienced Toowoomba optometrists provide thorough, personalised eye care at every stage of life.
Your eyes deserve
more than a quick check.
Changes in your eyes can happen gradually, which means you might not notice them straight away.
Perhaps the fine print is getting suspiciously smaller. Your eyes feel tired after a day in front of a screen. Driving at night isn’t quite as comfortable as it used to be. Or maybe everything seems perfectly fine and you simply want to keep it that way.
Regular eye examinations help us understand how well you’re seeing now, identify changes over time and check for signs of eye-health conditions that may not have obvious symptoms in their early stages.
You don’t need to wait until something feels wrong to have your eyes checked.
What is involved in our eye examinations
Your eye examination will be tailored to your age, vision, health and individual needs, but may include assessment of:
Your Vision and PrescriptionWe’ll check how clearly you can see at different distances and determine whether glasses, contact lenses or a change in your existing prescription could help.
Your EYE HEALTHWe examine the structures of your eyes and look for signs of eye disease or other changes that may need monitoring or treatment.
EYE PRESSUREEye pressure can be an important part of assessing your risk of conditions such as glaucoma. Where required, we can measure this using our painless iCare device.
YOUR RETINA AND MACULAThe back of your eye can provide valuable information about your eye health. Where appropriate, we can use OCT imaging to examine structures including your retina, macula and optic nerve in greater detail.
HOW YOUR EYES WORK TOGETHERDepending on your symptoms and needs, we can assess focusing, coordination and other aspects of how your eyes function together.
Most importantly, we’ll explain what we find and what it means for you.
WOMEN’S EYE HEALTHYour eyes can change when your hormones do.
From pregnancy and breastfeeding through to perimenopause and menopause, hormonal changes can affect your eyes in ways you might not expect.
You may notice changes to your vision, increased dryness or irritation, difficulty wearing contact lenses, or simply that your eyes don’t feel quite like they used to.
At LA Optical, we take these changes seriously. Our optometrists can assess your vision and eye health, investigate symptoms and recommend practical solutions based on what’s happening for you.
We can also assess for inflammation and infection due to make up ingredients, glues, dyes and the bacteria associated with it and provide advice on how to apply, remove makeup and how to care for your eye health.
Because changes in your eyes shouldn’t automatically be filed under “just one of those things.”
Eye care through every stage of life.
Our eyes change throughout our lives, and the care they need can change too.
We provide comprehensive eye examinations for adults of all ages, from young adults experiencing eye strain and changing prescriptions through to monitoring age-related changes and more complex eye conditions.
Our optometrists are experienced in assessing and managing concerns including:
changes in vision and spectacle prescriptions
dry or uncomfortable eyes
cataracts
glaucoma
macular degeneration
diabetic eye health
red, sore or irritated eyes
sudden or unexplained changes in vision.
Where something requires care beyond our scope, we can refer you to an appropriate ophthalmologist or hospital service and work alongside other eye-health professionals as part of your ongoing care.
DRY, TIRED OR UNCOMFORTABLE EYES?You don’t have to simply put up with them.
Dry eye is common, but there isn’t just one reason it happens.
Hormonal changes, medications, lifestyle, screen use and problems with the tear film can all contribute to eyes feeling dry, gritty, irritated, watery or tired.
Our optometrists can investigate what may be contributing to your symptoms and recommend a treatment or management plan suited to your eyes, including in-practice treatment where appropriate.
If dry eye is your main concern, let us know when booking so we can recommend the most appropriate appointment.
CASA AVIATION VISION TESTSClear vision for the skies ahead.
When your work takes you into the skies, meeting the required vision standards is essential.
At LA Optical, we provide aviation vision assessments in Toowoomba to help pilots meet the eyesight requirements set by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).
Our optometrists conduct thorough vision assessments, including the relevant tests required for aviation medical certification, with clear explanations and professional care throughout.
Vestibular Migraine Assessments
Dizziness, vertigo, headaches and sensitivity to light can make everyday activities feel surprisingly difficult. Vestibular migraine affects the body's balance system, but your eyes can also play an important role in how you experience these symptoms.
At LA Optical, Abby and Lauren have additional training in assessing the visual aspects of vestibular dysfunction. Through a comprehensive assessment, we look at how your eyes focus, align and work together to identify visual factors that may be contributing to your discomfort.
Depending on your individual needs, we may recommend specialised lenses, prisms or tints to help improve visual comfort, alongside practical advice for managing visual strain and potential triggers.
We also work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, including specialist GP Dr Annabelle Franklin and physiotherapist Jamie Green, to support a more holistic approach to managing vestibular migraine.
What to expect: Vestibular migraine assessments take approximately 45 minutes and include a detailed report. An assessment fee applies, with additional scans charged separately if required.
These appointments cannot be booked online. Please contact our friendly team to arrange your assessment.
URGENT EYE CARESomething suddenly not right?
Red eyes, infections, foreign bodies and sudden changes to your vision aren’t things you should ignore.
Our optometrists are experienced in managing a range of urgent eye concerns, including red eyes, eye infections, dry eye and foreign body removal. We’ll always do our best to accommodate urgent and emergency eye-care appointments on the same day.
If further investigation or specialist treatment is required, we can arrange referral to private ophthalmologists in Toowoomba, Ipswich or Brisbane, or to the appropriate public hospital service.
Make looking after your eyes part of looking after you.

-
Yes, regular eye examinations are still worthwhile even when you haven’t noticed a change. Some eye-health conditions can develop without obvious symptoms, and regular examinations allow your optometrist to monitor your eyes over time.
-
Not at all. Checking your prescription is only one part of a comprehensive eye examination. We can also assess the health of your eyes and look for signs of conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration.
-
Optical Coherence Tomography, or OCT, allows us to capture detailed images of structures at the back of your eye, including the retina, macula and optic nerve. We can check for macula degeneration and glaucoma. Your optometrist may recommend OCT imaging when it provides useful additional information about your eye health, to diagnose or monitor a retinal condition.
-
We can assess for signs and risk factors associated with glaucoma using tests such as eye-pressure measurement, examination of the optic nerve, OCT imaging and visual-field testing when required. Our optometrists can also work with ophthalmologists to manage glaucoma where appropriate.
-
Yes. Our optometrists can detect and monitor cataracts and help determine when they may be affecting your vision enough to consider further treatment. If cataract surgery becomes appropriate, we can refer you to an ophthalmologist and provide post-surgery assessments.
-
We’ll explain what we’ve found, what it means and what we recommend next. Depending on the issue, that might mean monitoring it at LA Optical, prescribing treatment, changing your glasses or contact lenses, or referring you to an ophthalmologist or other health professional.
-
Yes. If you have a red or painful eye, suspected infection, something lodged in your eye or a sudden change in vision, contact LA Optical as soon as possible. We’ll do our best to accommodate urgent eye-care appointments on the same day.
